Simmons “Odd Girls Out” Girls drawing invisible boundaries cliques What are the contradictory messages imbedded in the phrase “girl power”,  according to Simmons?  “girl power”-  (modern day def) is a cultural juggernaut. The message of modesty  and restraint are the essence of femininity. Contemporary feminist research  shows that our culture continues to pressure girls to be chaste, quiet, thin, and  giving, denying the desire for sexual please, voice, food, and self interest GIRL POWER-  main point Inherit contradiction with the term girl power is on one hand, you can do what   ever you want to do, girls an be whatever they want to be, and at the same time   in the other direction do that but be like Barbie, quiet, skinny, pretty, thin, giving,   denying.
