What is a language ideology? Not primarily about language. They are in the service of other, more basic,  ideological systems-concerning race, ethnicity, gender, sexuality, class,  nationality, and other aspects of the social world—which they cloak in linguistic  terms. **Social meanings assigned to language and its users, often in ways that grant  greater power to some sorts of language users and less to others** means with the power thing whoever knows the words they hold the power over meaning, whatever you talking about set of rules of how we speak and  a set of rules that people abide by as they lives their lives Beliefs about language Figuring out language ideology, to find it the correct way look or  Patterns, trends Powerful things   How does slang relate to swearing?
