BUSINESS REQUIREMENTS PLUS 2 Inventory Management and Control at Riordan Manufacturing The success of a business relies upon a set of processes that work together to produce and deliver services or goods to their customers. There requires a balanced focus on each step in the production lifecycle. One process cannot be overshadowed by another. All have to flow smoothly from the incoming raw material, to the shipping of the product. This paper will present an end to end solution to improve the ability for Riordan Manufacturing to streamline their manufacturing process, along with flowcharts that depict this solution. Raw Materials Receiving According to Riordan Manufacturing, Inc. (2004), “In order to ensure consistency of operations and quality control at all Riordan plants, a common set of procedures has been developed for the management of receiving raw materials, tracking products during manufacturing, and accounting for the finished good inventories” (Inventory Management and Control at Riordan Manufacturing, Para. 1). By incorporating an automated logistics system including hand held scanners with dockstations and a database Riordan Manufacturing will be able to streamline its raw materials receiving process, save money, and ensure production timelines. Raw materials will still be received at the receiving area for each plant. At the time of delivery, the contents are scanned as they enter the Riordan shipping area eliminating the need for the supervisor to compare the shipping documents to a scheduled orders receiving report, which speeds the process of receiving. The ordered versus actual received will be automatically checked and inconsistencies will be flagged. Automatically e-mailing the supplier if a shipment is not fulfilled properly is also possible. This report is provided to the receiving area on a weekly basis
