Results and Calculations: The goal of this experiment was to use electrophoresis to determine the isoelectric point of the protein bovine serum albumin. The isoelectric point is the pH value that leads to electric neutrality and results in no observed migration when electrophoresis is performed 1 . The class was divided into five groups, and each was assigned a pH value ranging from 4.00 to 7.00. The protein was placed on electrophoresis strips and subjected to an electric current which allowed it to move based on its electrical charge. The protein could move either towards the anode, the red terminal with a positive charge, or the cathode, the black terminal with the negative charge.
