Olivia Downs 9/22/2010 Section 9 In this experiment, the purpose was to determine if all of the samples were made of different materials. We were given three sample objects: a clear cube, and two cylindrical objects. We separated all the data by describing the color of each object: black, blue, and clear. All of these physical properties are able to help determine the identity of a substance and in this experiment. Density is the factor that was chosen. Matter is composed of two characteristics, mass and volume. When using the formula,, density is found. To find out whether all of the samples were made of different materials, the density was calculated from each material to compare and contrast data. This experiment was conducted by finding the mass of an object and dividing it by the object’s volume to calculate the density. To ensure our calculations were correct, mass and density were measured using two different methods. First, the mass was calculated by being placed on the top loader electronic balances and measured to the most accurate point. To find the
