Unformatted text preview: Evan Brown Microbiology 111 C Dr. Joseph Carlin 2 September 2010 Flu Vaccination (H1N1, H3N2, Influenza B) Description: This article was entitled “Lineman Won’t Be Tackled by Flu Again.” It uses an example of a twenty-two year old OSU lineman who was very fit and healthy, that ended up catching the H1N1 viruses. This resulted in a loss of thirty pounds and a month of recovery. This lineman, just like the 68% of people who did not get the flu vaccine last year, believed he could recover quickly from anything and that the flu vaccine was a “nuisance” therefore not important. But once he witnessed the virulent H1N1 flu he was convinced the vaccine was needed every year. The lineman was one 60 million that contacted the virus, but was able to avoid becoming one of the 270,000 that were hospitalized or one of the 12,270 that died between November 2009 to March 2010.
