MOLECULES OF LIFE – WEEKLY PREVIEW #12 April 16, 2011 Dear students: Here is an overview of our course plans for next week. (1) STUDY QUESTIONS I have posted the study questions for WEDNESDAY’S CLASS (#19) on the Blackboard site. As always, I recommend that you review these questions each week and write short answers to the questions. (2) CLASSES Since the Passover holiday is next week, I will post a complete set of notes for the classes on Monday and Wednesday . These notes will be available after the class is completed. I will also post any in-class assignments for next week and allow sufficient time for make-ups to be completed. Next week’s classes will examine how enzymes are able to function as such effective biological catalysts. Enzymes have two key properties that distinguish them form metal catalysts that are typically used in chemical laboratories: (1) They accelerate reactions at a much faster rate , and (2) they are much more selective in choosing a specific type of reactant over other types of
