Chapter 11 What are the advantages and disadvantages of each type of interpersonal communication? (Pg. 161-163) Oral Communication Advantages: Speed and feedback Disadvantages: The more people that pass the message, the more the message is distorted (telephone game) Written Communication Advantages: tangible, verifiable, message can be stored for future reference, usually well thought out, logical, and clear Disadvantages: time-consuming and lack of feedback- no guarantee recipient will interpret it as sender intended Nonverbal Communication Advantages: Find out 1) the extent to which an individual likes another and is interested in his/her views. 2) the relative perceived status between a sender and receiver (pg 162) Disadvantages: Body language can often add to and complicate verbal communication (pg 163) 1.
