IntroductionStrong leadership is important to any business’s success. Leaders take the responsibilityof making sure their team or followers achieve the set goals. The qualities that make upleadership have evolved throughout history. Much research has been done on the topic since itsintroduction as early as the 1300s, however, not much is still known about leadership. All leadershave their own style and tend to seek cultures and organizations that allows their leadership styleto thrive. To effectively explain leadership and explore my personal leadership style andbehavior, I have developed a personal leadership theory. This was done by assessing what makesa successful leader and what leadership means to me personally. This paper will reflect on thefield of leadership theory while identifying my own theory of leadership that I would most likelyemploy as a leader. Additionally, my theory of leadership will be compared to past research andevidence of leadership concepts.The Universal definition of LeadershipLeadership plays a critical role in a business’s success and performance. Although leadershipis recognized virtually everywhere, the concept holds many definitions. Depending on thescenario, goals being pursued, and the type of individuals involved, the definition of leadershipcan vary. Leadership is commonly defined as “the process of social influence, which maximizesthe efforts of others, towards the achievement of a goal” (cite). Successful leadership allowsindividuals to be influenced by the leader’s power and position. “Leadership requires a complexcollection of many attributes that include follower-desired personality traits, communicationskills, leadership skills, and teaching ability, to name a few” (cite). Many types of leadershipstyles exist including transformational, charismatic, autocratic, democratic, and situational.Leaders should be able to build relationships with their relationships and encourage them to
achieve high performance and organizational goals. Common characteristics that all leadersshould possess are empathy, courage, vision, passion, trustworthy, analytical, insightfulness, andcoaching.Leadership is an important function of management and involves directing, influencing,and motivating employees to achieve goals. A leader is one who guides or leads, responsible forcommanding others, and has influence or power. Leading a team or group isn’t easy and takestime and patience. Being a leader requires effort and the possession of various skills that willhelp them function effectively. Effort is important in leadership. Leaders should continuallyperform more work than everyone else to set a positive example for followers. Other factorsaffect the success of a leader like the decisions made, goals pursued, and the productivity offollowers. The goals of leaders include creating the future, making change, thinking ideal,
