Wentian Su Com270-007 Prof.Keewan TO: Bob Morgan, Operations Department FROM: Vince Sinclair, Design Department DATE: May 27, 2010 SUBJECT: Proposal for Wheelchair-Lift Switch Covers PURPOSE The purpose in submitting this proposal was to insure year-round access of patrons to the Springfield Armory Museum through the use of specially designed covers that would prevent the switch buttons on the wheelchair lifts from freezing. Immediate change is necessary because the frozen wheelchair-lift switch buttons are causing substantially reduced patronage. My proposal, if accepted by you, would eliminate this situation. PROBLEM The Springfield Armory Museum's year-round access has not been possible due to the extremely cold New England winters which have frequently frozen the switch buttons on the wheelchair- lifts, making them inoperable. The switch buttons, in turn, require several hours to thaw. This problem is serious because it has prevented hundreds of wheelchair- bound persons and their companions from entering the museum during the cold weather months.
