A signiFcant number of students didn't know how to obtain a derivative use a limit. Average is 4 out of 10. Students exhibited many different difFcuties; no one common issue to report. Average is about 5 out of 8. Common difFculties: sin(a+b) sina+sinb; not knowing value of sine of pi/6 radian; some calculated (1/2)/2 as 1, instead of 1/4. Average is 6 out of 8. Apparently quite a number of students did not know the meaning of [[x]]. Average is about 4 out of 9. Common difFculties: x-(x+y)=-y, not y; if numerator is divided by t, the denominator needs to be divided by t also; some students had very little idea how to deal with a "limit at inFnity" - they could not have understood the relevant section of text or done many examples. Average is 7 out of 13. Common difFculty: not knowing how to deal with something as basic as log_a (a^3). Average is 6 out of 12. Many students are unable to correctly manipulate expressions involving logarithm of an arbitrary base. Plenty more practice is required for most students. MATH1013A F2011 class stats as of Oct 14, 2011 Please notify Dr Szeto for omissions or errors asap Class average of this question is 9 out of 15. Many students shared the common error of ending up with a negative squared quantity inside a square root . Many omitted +/- when taking square root. Others failed to provide correct range and domain answers. Class average of this question is 7 out of 10. A number of students used inequality signs incorrectly when specifying range.
