Common difFculties: x-(x+y)=-y, not y; if numerator is divided by t, the denominator needs to be divided by t also; some students had very little idea how to deal with a "limit at inFnity" - they could not have understood the relevant section of text or done many examples. Average is 7 out of 13. Common difFculty: not knowing how to deal with something as basic as log_a (a^3). Average is 6 out of 12. Many students are unable to correctly manipulate expressions involving logarithm of an arbitrary base. Plenty more practice is required for most students.
