Yicheng Li Julia Nan Effects of Pesticides, Bean Variation, Moisture, and Light on Callosobruchus malaculatus Hatch Rate and Death Rate Problem : Can Callosobruchus malaculatus be studied to determine environmental effects on hatch rate, death rate, and natal bean discrimination? Hypothesis: If the alkalinity of the callosobruchus malaculatus habitat increases, then the callosobruchus malaculatus population density will increase. Since most insecticides that kill callosobruchus malaculatus are acidic, callosobruchus malaculatus will survive better in an environment that is basic. Also because beans grow best in a slightly basic environment, callosobruchus malaculatus will prefer such an environment since they have to adapt to this environment in order to obtain the maximum amount of food. If the salinity of the callosobruchus malaculatus environment increases, then the population density of the callosobruchus malaculatus will decrease. Because the salt will dehydrate callosobruchus malaculatus
