Eye irritation not present before therapy. Hypersensitivity
reacions. minor ocular reactions. Redness may occur in
overgrowth of nonsucepible organisms, including fungi. Contraindications/Precautions
Contraindicated in hypersensitivty to penicillins. Use
cautiously in severe renal insufficiency, infectious
mononucleosis, acute lympcytic leukemia or
cytomegalovirus infections. Interactions
Can cause rash, diarrhea, and sensitization in the infant.
There are no known drug interactions. Medication Administration Apply from unit dose (1cm) to
eyes after birth in newborns.
Adinister from the inner to
outer canthus. Do not toucht
he tip of tube to any part of the
eye. Do not rinse. Nursing Interventions
Clean the infant’s eyes as
needed before application.
Hold the tube in a horizontal
rather than a vertical position
to prevent injury to the eye
from sudden movement.
Observe for irritation. Client Education
Evaluation of Medication Effectiveness Tell caregivers to assess for
