Week 1 Checkpoint By: Brandon Hunter HIS/115 9/13/2011 Between the 1400’s and 1500’s Europe was going through many social and economic hard times. During this time of struggle many European countries looked to expand their country while also gaining wealth and power over other European countries by searching for new trade routes to Asia and to search out new lands to conquer. There are many social changes that occurred during these times that caused the European countries to search of new land and wealth. The Black Plague had ravaged their lands, killing millions of people and sending the entire country into darkness the likes they have never seen. The Black Plague not only wiped out entire towns and villages but it also destroyed crops and livestock, the ensuing food shortage killed more Europeans and brought more crime to these nations. Robbery, homicide, and rape crimes spiked causing further unrest of the populations. Inequality also was a contributing factor that caused these once might European nations to seek
