Taken up genetic material from environment. When a bacterium takes up new genetic material from the environment. Becomes incorporated in bacterial chromosomes o Conjugation (may include a plasmid) Bottom panel of picture Conjugation bridge between 2 bacteria. Each of bacteria have a circular chromosome Donor is replicating one side. Goes through conjugation bridge to recipient. Recipient has old genes from before and additional genes from donor bacteria. Donor didn’t lose genetic material.
