Gregor Mendel Basically followed a lot of traits in pea plants Detected patterns and charted stats of generations Didn’t know about meoisis or alleles Genes and Alleles Alleles Carry information for same trait Occur at same place on homologous chromosomes For any trait likely to have 2 alleles, except males don’t have 2 X 2 alike alleles-homozygous 2 unalike alleles- heterozygous Appearance-phenotype B blood phenotype Genes- genotype BO blood genotype Know genotype by offspring O, A, B alleles Lots of alleles in population but just have 2 2. Recessive expressed only when it is by itself (O) 3. Dominant always expressed (A,B) Codominant- both show up (AB) Dominant alleles both expressed (enzyme-- glycolipid on RBCs A B O) O is absence of A or B. Rh factor Positive - 1 allele for rh factor (dominant) Negative- 0 allele for rh factor 4. Genetics Problem 5. Giraffe L- long l- short Mama giraffe short neck ll Dad short neck ll Meiosis l
