June 9 Gothic Art North Transcept- 3 portals on each side; devoted to Mary; three lobed arch in the middle; small figures are carved all around the arch; the coronation of mary is what is pictured; common scene in the Gothic period; assumption is being brought to heaven; Jesusis pictured crowning Mary Blanch of Castille rules the kingdom while Louis IX is growing up The Visitation- jambs on the Chartres Cathedral; some contrapasto; clothing is thinner and gives you the lines of the body; idealized as the type that is appropriate for that individuals character Prophets and Prefigurations of Christ- on the Chartres Cathedral; portraying the interaction between Abraham and God; shown crushing evil; would have been fully painted Cathedral of Notre Dame- moved away from the flat front facades; no relics; exists to have coronation processions for the French kings; was hugely over budgeted; the entire front is either sculpture or windows nothing is flat Coronation of Mary-
