ABNORMAL PSYCHOLOGY I.  Approaches to Understanding Abnormal Behavior A. Statistical Approach -far from average in normal distribution B. Sociological Approach -cultures are different, different things are “normal” C. Psychoanalytical Approach -Freudian approach, illnesses can be traced to  childhood experiences, especially those that have to  do w/sexual development D. Behavioral Approach -disorders are caused by learning, bad behavior being  reinforced in childhood E. Cognitive Approach -faulty thought process, thinking in a way that causes  problems F. Biological Approach -imbalance, genetics, nutrition **G. Interactionist Approach -more common, caused by an interaction among 2 or  more factors
