September 15, 11 Psych 1010 Different methods of Research Survey Method - consists of a set of written questions that are used to determine our beliefs, our attitudes and behaviours. Advantages- fast and cheap Disadvantages - validity and honesty. - Interpretation (choice of words/clarity) - Large sample of people (hundreds and thousands) When conducting a survey, do a pilot study clarify issues by having a test group point out issues. In order to generalize from the sample to the population, the sample must be representative of the population. If it is not representative, it is biased . Random Sampling : one sampling technique is where each person in the population where everyone has an equal chance of being chosen for the sample. Naturalistic Observation - used to measure or to describe people’s behavior as they are behaving naturally in a natural environment/setting. Advantage- people are behaving naturally so you can generalize. Disadvantages-
