A time-harmonic uniform plane wave that propagates in air impinges normally on the planar interface between the air medium and an imperfect dielectric medium of relative permittivity 1 r ε > and magnetic permeability that of free space. The conductivity of the imperfect dielectric is 0.01 S/m. If 25% of the time-average power density of the incident wave gets reflected, calculate the following (assuming air has the properties of free space): a) The relative permittivity of the imperfect dielectric. ( Hint : Make use of the fact that the material is an imperfect dielectric to approximate the value of its intrinsic impedance.) b) Calculate the distance from the material interface at which the time-average transmitted power density decreases to 1/20 of its value at the material interface. 2.
