Personal Ethics Paper2AbstractEthics in the field of education is something that helps to keep school leaders, teachers, and staff members on the right path. Every state has a code of ethics for professional educators, school administrators, district leadership and so forth. When we follow these ethical codes we are bound to set ourselves up for greatness within the field. However there are times when ethical mistakes and issues do arise in education and throughout our daily lives. As school leaders we should always seek God first, lead by example, continue to learn and grow within the profession, motivate others, lead with integrity and communicate effectively with others. As stated in Proverbs 22:1 KJV “A good name is to be chosen over great wealth; favor is better than silver and gold”. Given that we as leaders need to understand that without integrity or morals we could tarnish our name which as stated in the verse referenced is not worth anything in the world God has created for us. Personal Ethics Paper3Personal Ethics Paper of School Administrators Merriam-Webster dictionary defines ethics as “the discipline dealing with what is good and bad and with moral duty and obligation”. Personally I believe that ethics are the principles ofconduct that govern us in the field of education given that every state has some form of an ethics code that relates to how we as educators should conduct ourselves both in and out of the classroom in an appropriate manner. Blackaby and Blackaby (2011) state “leaders shipwreck careers, organizations, and families by making carless, foolish choices”. Ethics help to ensure that what we are doing as educational leaders is appropriate and that we are not causing any wrongdoing to the students and school community that we are serving. As Proverbs 11:3 KJV states “The integrity of the upright guides them but the unfaithful are destroyed by their duplicity”. Overall ethics especially for school leaders is very important for a multitude of reasons. Seek God FirstWhen it comes to educational leadership there are many stakeholders that are depending on you and your leadership. These stakeholders range from the students, their families, your faculty and staff and any other community members that the school is serving. Being a school leader is something that should not be taken lightly as you can drastically alter and affect the lives of so many individuals in either a positive or negative manner. J. Oswold Sanders said it best “The secular mind and heart, however gifted and personally charming, has no place in leadership”. Leaders should consistently seek God first in all that they do as educational leaders
