ROUTER AND SWITCH CONFIGURATION 2 Router and Switch Configuration First we need to understand that there are more then one type of switch. There are Micro Switches, and Catalyst Switches. Micro switches are Cisco’s basic and most popular switches. These are 8 port 10/100 devices. The Catalyst switches come in many different series and model types. To configure and manage the switch using the command-line interface (CLI) or management console, you connect the console port to a management station. When you receive the switch there is no password assigned. You need a privileged level password in order to access the switch management interfaces.
