The spinning of the tower at crossroads is accompanied by beleganjur music of especially great volume and energy. 1) It is believed that it has power to frighten and deflect evil spirits 2) It is used to inspire physical strength and courage among the carriers of the heavy tower who face formidable challenge in their efforts to spin the tower with speed and energy 3) It is hoped that it will embolden the atma of the deceased, who may be tempted to flee the tower in fear The crossroads style of beleganjur music is usually marked by a change in the rhythmic patterns of the drums and cymbals. These more driving rhythms belong to a style of playing in beleganjur called malpal. The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
