Name: Kathryn Putney Subject : Measurement Grade level: 1 Lesson Title: How to Use a Ruler Sunshine State Standards Benchmark: MA.1.G.5.1 Measure by using iterations of a unit, and count the unit measures by grouping units Rationale: To learn how to measure things outside of the classroom and be able to compare objects by size. Students will also need to be familiar with the ruler. Objective: Students will be able to properly use a ruler. They will also understand the concept of comparing by size. Content: Show the parts of a ruler and introduce keywords. Inch Centimeter Compare Procedure: Introduce objective. Write objective on the board and explain what is expected of the students by the end of the lesson Show parts of the ruler. Both inches and centimeters and compare. I will also explain how the ruler is broken down by 1/8 of inches.
