Katie Putney Western Civilizations 1700-present February 1, 2011 Assessment 1 Analyze the Road to Revolution from 1763-1776. What were the key events on the path that brought the Americans into open rebellion against the home country? There were many events and reasons that lead Americans to revolt against the king and begin a revolution. Among these were; new taxes, restrictions, lack of what the colonists thought to be fair representation, the intentions of the king and many others. After the French and Indian War the colonists were forced to pay additional taxes to help pay for the war because the British helped keep them in the empire by eliminating French Military threats. Then the king imposed more direct taxes and laws to demonstrate British Authority. Because the colonists lacked an elected representative in the British Parliament, many of the colonists thought that the new laws were a violation of their rights. They believed that without fair representation in the parliament and an input in the law making, these laws were
