Experiment One: Vibrating Ring
Objective
: The objective of this experiment is to find the functional relationship between the
Period of an Oscillating Ring and its Diameter.
Brief Description of procedure
: There were a few steps taken to find the functional
relationship between an oscillating ring and its diameter. The first step taken was to measure the inner
and outer diameters and take the mean diameter for each individual ring. Once these numbers were
found, they were entered into a program and a fine instrument called Photogate was used to measure
the oscillation of each ring. This data was called the Period. Once both diameter and period data were
collected, they were used to graph a Power Plot and Log Plot. A power parameter was entered to find
the graph closely related to the Power Plot and a slope “p” was found in the Log Plot. These graphs
show the correlation between the period of a ring and its diameter which will later be discussed in the
Discussion Section.

Analysis
: The slope “p” is determined by the change in Log T over the change in Log d, which
