Ankit Patel 8-10-11 Comp 2 Prof. Burt The Tragic Hero A tragedy combined with a hero cannot mean good news . When one thinks of a hero, Superman flies right into their head . No one would ever associate a hero with hardship or tragedy. A debt needs to be paid by heroes that carry burdens . A tragic hero portrays a character pulling grief wherever they go. In the story “The Death of a Salesman” by Arthur Miller, Willy Loman portrays a tragic hero from beginning to end by living in a fake reality, denying his dreams, and passing his idea of accomplishment onto his son . Throughout the story, Willy creates an illusion out of his own life . He sets many goals for himself in order to feel self-worth . He feels like he has not accomplished anything within his life. However, Willy lacks passion as a salesman and has to lie about his own life to meet his criteria . Over time, this fake reality becomes his life and lies nearly all the time to his friends and family . Willy hardly makes any money, tells everyone that he's a well respected salesman and how everyone loves
