Paul O’Malley Labor in the global Economy 9/17/09 In the article “ The Promise of Development” By Joseph Stiglitz, the many successes and failures of globalization are discussed. He talks about the successes of globalization in east asian countries, and the markedly worse conditions in developing countries throughout the rest of the globe. Most of these countries are in regions in Latin America and Former soviet satellites throughout Eastern Europe and Russia. He makes the case against neoliberal globalization, but he leaves out many factors that are vital in determining the successes and faliures of the current style of globalization practiced by the World Bank and The International monetary Fund. Stiglitz often talks about certain statistics that represent a country’s GDP and economical growth but fails to mention quality of life, human development index, and the cultures acceptance of the development loans. Most cultures reject western ideas and are more likely to practice their cultural ideas then to fall in line with big westernized corporations. IT is hard to
