Paul O’Malley Labor in the Global Economy 10-29-09 Articles: Factory Girls and China’s Hukou system The two articles I picked to talk about weren’t exactly “persuasive” articles but because of how the information is presented in them and they way the authors use real life examples, I found them too be very persuading . The article “Factory Girls” talks about life at the Yue Yuen shoe factory and how the workers there work, live, and spend their free time . It is a very in depth study on how the monotony of factory life affects their workers not only physically, but mentally as well . The article on the Chinese Hukou system also presents facts on the very poorly planned Hukou system of residency in China . It is an eye-opening account of the plight workers who migrate from one region to another face when they are forced to find new jobs . Although they are not trying to be persuasive, the reader can’t help feel compassion for the factory workers of China after reading the two articles
