ECONOMICS 104: INTRODUCTION TO MACROECONOMICS Fall 2011 COURSE SYLLABUS Since 2008, the United States economy, and global economy more broadly, have been clobbered by the Great Recession, the most severe economic crisis since the 1930s Depression. I would imagine that many of you, as well as many of your friends and family, have been affected by the crisis. Maybe you or people you know have lost their jobs or been unable to get a job, or have lost savings due to the financial market collapse, or perhaps families you know have faced difficulties making mortgage payments on their home. What is behind the economic crisis and how does it affect all of us? This is question #1 for the course. If you pay attention in this course and keep up with the readings and assignments, you will see that this is NOT too complicated a question for you to be able to answer. But that is only where we start.
