Assignments: Read Chapter Two in the Required Customized Textbook. In chapter two we will explore globalization . We will learn about the value activities chain (VAC) and what parts of it can be globalized, both upstream in the sourcing of raw materials, intermediate inputs and manufacturing as well as downstream in the channels of distribution (marketing the global product or service). We will learn how both culture and governments can actively restrain or even prohibit the global rationalization of Vacs altogether. We will examine how commodities are naturally global and how commodity-like products can be turned into global offerings by standardizing and rationalizing production to serve consumers who use the product (or service) in the same ways irregardless of locale. We will learn the arguments for and against globalization, as well as who is helped and who is harmed by it. Listen to the required audio lecture
