Lavallee 1 Jenna Lavallee Theater 100 Event Response 1 7 February 2010 Performance in Everyday Life Performances happen all the time without anyone consciously realizing it. Almost every action that we do on a daily basis is in a sense a performance. Interactions with your friends, family, coworkers, and even strangers are all performances. They are your audience as you interact with them. What you do and say form your character and persona. Performances are most evident in people’s work place. An example of someone performing for an audience is a doctor in a hospital setting. Doctors put on performances every day at work. They step into their character when they get dressed for the job. Most doctors wear lab coats with dress pants. They dress a certain way to get into character. Doctors need to present themselves in a professional way so they are taken seriously and to show authority. The first way to transform into a character is through their costume.
