Yogini Patel Socio 103 Research Paper Adnan Mirza was a foreign student who came to Texas on a student visa,  was sentenced up to fifteen years in prison without parole this past October.  Convicted   of   conspiring   to   provide   material   support   to   the   Taliban   and   for  unlawfully possessing firearms in May 2010, he claims he is innocent and that the  FBI for being framed by an undercover FBI informant he tells officials.  Adnan is a Pakistani citizen who was born and raised in the tiny country of  Kuwait. He came to the United States on a student visa to attend Houston  Community College. When he was not taking classes at HCC, he spent most of his  either volunteering at a program to feed Houston’s homeless and worked closely  with local Muslim community groups. During the years of 2005 and 2006, Adnan  went on a number of camping trips with people he assumed who were his friends  in North Houston. Jim Coates, a supposed friend of Adnan’s was recruited to be  an FBI informant along with Malik Mohammad. They both recorded conversations  with Adnan and others, as well as taking pictures of them holding guns. The government has proof that Adnan and the others had engaged in  weekend   training   and   practice   session   with   firearms   to   prepare   for   a   jihad  through   the   undercover   investigation.  Jihad  is   an   Islamic   term   that   means  religious duty of Muslims. In Arabic, the word  jihad  translates into English as  struggle. Jihad appears frequently in the Qur'an and commonly used as the
