English has six verb tenses, divided into simple and perfect groups. The three simple and perfect tenses divide time into present, past, and future tenses. Incorrect: It started with a simple experiment: dropping an egg off a building. Correct: It starts with a simple experiment: dropping an egg off a building. Shift in Numbers- A pronoun must match its antecedent in number. Incorrect: First he would wait for them to be alone and then blow their brains out with a shotgun. Correct: First he would wait for the person to be alone and then blow his or her brains out with a shotgun. Incorrect Pronoun Use- To use the pronouns that and which correctly, you want to check the context of the sentence you are writing. Which and that refer to animals, while who refers to people. Incorrect:
