Krystal Wein English Comp II Reading Response 7 In the poem “Daddy” the author talks about how her dad killed himself and she had a lot of anger towards him because of it. At first when I read the poem I thought her father was just mentally abusive towards her because it says, “I could hardly speak. I thought every German was you. And the language obscene.” As I read on I realize that this is not the case. She talks about always being scared of him. I took that as she was scared she was going to turn out like him. In

I think she was just lost and didn’t know what to do so her only alternative to being happy is to not existing. This was a very touching story and I liked it a lot. It is interesting to read how other people feel; it gives you an insight to things I have never had to deal with in my life....
