Capstone CheckPoint The United States educational system has made many great strides in providing the necessary accommodations to helping our students in the special education system. Some of the greatest strengths of the current special education system are Free Appropriate Public Education (FAPE), Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), Individualized Education Program (IEP), and Least Restrictive Environment (LRE). These four are the greatest for the special education system because FAPE provides an education for everyone with no prejudice of gender, race, nationality, impairment, or disability, IDEA provides early intervention and specialty services for all students with a disability, IEP ensures those in the special education program receive an educational plan that works best for the individual, and LRE ensure access to all educational resources to allow full academic potential (U.S. Department of Education, n.d.).
