Channeling Students into a Gifted Program 1 Channeling Students into a Gifted Program Gifted programs help students to achieve their advanced knowledge learning capabilities to reach their full academic learning potential. Gifted students are able to absorb material at a faster pace, work well with abstractions, make learning connections easily and have many interests, (British Columbia Ministry of Education, 2010). Educators can take many strategies and approaches for identifying students and meeting their needs of being gifted or talented. Schools should have protocol guidelines to help educators identify gifted and talented students. A protocol will help an educator to identify student who meet criteria in the following areas of general intellectual ability, specific academic aptitude, creative and critical thinking, leadership ability, visual and performing arts, psychomotor ability,
