Experiment #7 Chungwei Yen CHEM 117-536 Alex Summary: The purpose of this experiment is to find relationships between the structure and molecular weight of various molecules to the strength of intermolecular forces in a solution. First the change in temperature is measured as a sample of solution evaporates at constant temperature. The endothermic reaction of evaporation will show a much larger temperature decrease in those solutions which evaporate faster due to lower intermolecular forces. Second, the partial pressure of the solutions will be measured at a range of temperatures while contained in a fixed volume. The solution with a lower intermolecular force had lower partial pressure at low temperatures. As temperature increased, the partial pressure of the solution with lower intermolecular forces increased faster than the solution with larger intermolecular forces. Calculations:
