Intermolecular Forces & The Evaporation of Liquids Experiment #7 Chungwei Yen CHEM 117-536 Alex Summary: The purpose of this experiment is to find relationships between the structure and molecular weight of various molecules to the strength of intermolecular forces in a solution. First the change in temperature is measured as a sample of solution evaporates at constant temperature. The endothermic reaction of evaporation will show a much larger temperature decrease in those solutions which evaporate faster due to lower intermolecular forces. Second, the partial pressure of the solutions will be measured at a range of temperatures while contained in a fixed volume. The solution with a lower intermolecular force had lower partial pressure at low temperatures. As temperature increased, the partial pressure of the solution with lower intermolecular forces increased faster than the solution with larger intermolecular forces.

As a current student on this bumpy collegiate pathway, I stumbled upon Course Hero, where I can find study resources for nearly all my courses, get online help from tutors 24/7, and even share my old projects, papers, and lecture notes with other students.

The ability to access any university’s resources through Course Hero proved invaluable in my case. I was behind on Tulane coursework and actually used UCLA’s materials to help me move forward and get everything together on time.
