Eshunna): “Square Temple” of the vegetation god Abu (?), ED II; worshipper figurines --- King (lugal) Mesilim of Kish (ED II) Early Dynastic Period o First historical period in Mesopotamia Begin to have names of rulers and where they ruled etc Khafaje – Temple Oval o For construction, dug out all of the earth and replaced it with pure sand to build temple on Possibly did this to somehow purify the area Houses had been there before, therefore land was impure Tell Asmar (Eshnunna) – Square Temple o Shaped similarly to a house With a central courtyard Different rooms have different shrines/cults o In one shrine/area excavators found several small idols All portrayed as very devout/reverent people Most likely dedicated by individuals Who hoped to indicate that they are always worshipping the deity
