It will examine the fundamentals of the free economic enterprise system and the social forces affecting it. This course will examine the fundamental concepts and skills needed to make a business enterprise successful; it will also involve understanding the universal skill employees need in order to help make a business competitive in today’s society. It will discuss the global dimension of business and how it is evolving in the 21 st century. Class Information Introduction to Business – fall semester 2010. The course registration number for this class is 20199. The meeting times will be MWF at 11:00-11:50 a.m. in room 404 of the HT Bldg. Course Outcomes Upon completion of the course: 1. Students will be able to explain the importance of entrepreneurship and intrapreneur to the growth and wealth of an economy. 2. Students will know how to explain Capitalism and how free markets work particularly in regard to small businesses. 3. Students will be able to discuss the changing landscape of the global market and how these impact the way business operate. 4. Students will be able to explain the importance of human resource management and describe current issues in managing human resource. 5. Students will be able to explain how the changes that are occurring in the business, technical and global environments are affecting the management function. 6. Students will be able to explain the various issues involved in structuring organizations. 7. Students will be able to define marketing and explain how the marketing concept applies in both for-profit and nonprofit organizations. 8. Students will be able to describe the importance of finance and financial management to an organization, while outlining the financial planning process. 9. Students will be able to define social responsibility and examine corporate responsibility to various stakeholders. 10. Students will be able to explain the importance of planning in business. Grading A. Requirements- All requirements must be completed to pass this class The student must pass three exams that will be discussed during lecture discussion and group format. The student must complete all outside assignments (3), which are not graded, but must be presented orally in class. There will also be one group project where the team of students will be able to pick a company and following the assigned format the project will be divided amongst team members and the project must be completed by a
