Important People During Slavery Frederick Douglass - was born on  February 17, 1818 and he died on  February 20 1895. He was an  American abolitionist. Douglass was  a powerful person in the anti-slave  movement. He published the  abolitionist   newspaper called "North Star".  His main goal consisted of him trying to  end slavery by writing and speaking  about the inhumanity of slavery.  George B, McClellan - was born on  December 3, 1826 and died an October  29, 1885. He was a Major General  in the Union army during the American  civil war. Comander of the famous Army troop  the Potomac, he served from November  1861 to March 1862. Early in the war,  McClellan played an important role in  raising a well-trained and organized  army for the Union. George Brinton McClellan fought against slavery William T Sherman - William T Sherman was born on  February 8, 1820 and died on
