After a wish or a command The subjunctive is used in the clause following verbs that express a wish, request, command,  permission, prohibition, preference, or desire. For example:  Mon père défend que nous allions voir ce film.  (My father forbids us to see that film.)  Il préfère que nous fassions nos devoirs.  (He prefers that we do our homework.)
