CHEM 2341-002 Organic Chemistry Fall 2011 Syllabus This first semester of organic chemistry covers nomenclature, structure, and reactions of fundamental classes of organic compounds. Upon completion of the course, students will understand the close relationship between structure and function of organic molecules and be able to predict the reactants and/or products of important reaction mechanisms. Prerequisite : CHEM 1342 or 1420, Grade of C or better. Instructor: Dr. Wendi David Office Hours: M-Th, 1-2:15pm, or by appt. Office: CENT 422 e-mail: wdavid@txstate.edu Phone: 245-3342 Required Text: Solomons and Fryhle, “Organic Chemistry” 10 th edition (Wiley) Recommended Text: th edition (Wiley) Grading: QUIZZES: There will be 6 quizzes, each worth 20 points. The lowest quiz grade will be dropped, giving a total of 100 points possible from quizzes. There will be no makeup quizzes . EXAMS: There will be two exams worth 100 points each, scheduled for Sept. 20, 2011 and Nov. 1, 2011. There will be no makeup exams. In the case of a documented emergency, students will be allowed to substitute their grade on the final exam for a missed exam. Unexcused absences will result in a zero for the missed exam. FINAL:
