Matt Deis Ms. Williams English 110, Section 105 28 September 2010 Writing Project Three In attempting to find a topic for this paper I honestly did not need to look too far. When I need to find something to write about that is going to be able to inspire a paper that will include my passions and interests while at the same time invoking thought and interest from the reader, I look to my home. For me, “home”, includes, my family, my friends, my town, my city, my state and even my country. All of these examples can stand alone as guarantees of topics that I will be able to write passionately about and hopefully that passion will translate into inspiration for whoever comes across my writing. So, as I turned my focus toward my family and the current social, political and economic occurrences back in New York, I immediately was able to connect with the current controversy over the plans to build a “multi-cultural center” near Ground Zero in New York City. My father is part of the respected and honored community of emergency response workers that responded to the attacks of September, 11 2001 on the World Trade Center; fortunately my father was lucky enough to be able to walk away from the attack with no physical harm done to him. I was interested and concerned to hear where someone who had lived through that experience first-hand, in a way that no one else could sincerely understand, stood on the issue. There are so many different angles and arguments that can be made for all sides of the issue, and I plan on investigating them all. The final decision of this project will most definitely have an enormous impact on both the Muslim and Non-Muslim communities in both, America and all across the globe and it is because of that inevitable impact that this topic must be both investigated and understood....
