Jacques Amanda Jacques Sarah Hill English 101-13 31 March 2010 The Rosenberg Case June 19 th , 1953 was the last day that Julius and Ethel Rosenberg were alive, they were executed after Judge Irving Kaufman sentenced them to death for conspiracy to commit espionage. The Rosenbergs were the first to be executed for this charge, and were the only ones to be executed for this during the cold war. Julius Rosenberg was an electrical engineer, and worked as an engineer inspector at Fort Monmouth. That is where Julius came into contact with information on the atomic bomb in which he was charged with transmitting. Both were members of the Young Communist League. They pleaded innocence until they were executed. Judge Kaufman was wrong in his death sentence of Julius and Ethel Rosenberg not only because there wasn’t enough evidence, but because it was used as a scare tactic. David Greenglass, Ethel’s brother, was the main witness in the case of the Rosenbergs, and obstructed justice with his testimony. Greenglass testified that Ethel typed and copied all of his notes for him. In 2001, Greenglass stated on the show 60 Minutes that “I don't know who typed it, frankly, and to this day I can't remember that the typing took place.
