11/09/11 2 Rape In U.S. 16 rapes are attempted every hr.; a woman is  raped every 6 mins. 20% of girls and 12% of boys are victims of sexual  abuse before age 13 Historically = a crime of property; or done in wartime  1 in 5 women will be raped in her lifetim 16-24 yr. olds most freq. victims Most rapes are done by someone victim knows Rapists look for vulnerable women Most are young men; most are repeat offenders The behavior begins early
