Postman: Option #2 In my mortal work, I concentrated my attention on the possible negative consequences of technology, mostly because everyone else seems to speak about the advantages technology will bring. Someone needs to mention what may be lost as we drown ourselves further into a “sea of irrelevance” as I depict in Amusing Ourselves to Death . But I raise no complaints here nor is my goal is to report something that I have found quite ridiculous during my short time back, even though those observations are abundant. But instead, I have come to praise the invention of the GPS and discuss its technological success in terms of 2 principal difficulties this invention surprisingly, yet thankfully, lacks. To make the assumption that technology is always a friend to culture is as I have said, “stupidity plain and simple” but this invention one of the closer friends I have seen in a while. The first difficulty has arrived for anyone who has studied the history of technology for they should know that technological change is always a Faustian bargain: “Technology giveth and technology taketh away”.
