Once "medicalized" the idea spreads: Interests of social workers, lobbying efforts of the medical profession, and the role of the media. Resistance was weak: Labelers==> Middle class, 'removed' from abusers. Abusers==> Lower class; no power. With continued acceptance==> further spread and continued medicalization.
