By Day 3 Post a blog post that includes: An explanation of potential challenges in adhering to confidentiality in your field education experience Confidentiality means that information shared within a relationship will not be shared outside that relationship. The expectation is that what a client tells a social worker, the social worker will not reveal to others. The purpose of client confidentiality is to encourage clients to share information that may be embarrassing, or even self- incriminating. Through the sharing of such information, the social worker can help the client address an issue, concern, or problem the client may be experiencing. The social worker’s obligation to keep client information confidential is supported through state and federal law, but most often is discussed in reference to the NASW Code of Ethics. In my field experience, I work with children and adults with mental health. The one potential challenge I may face when adhering to confidentiality would be to breach confidentiality if my client threatens to harm themselves or someone else. This could harm the relationship with my client and I as they may feel like they would no longer be able to confide in me which can result in losing their trust. A description of agency policies or mandates with regard to confidentiality . My agency values that an organization, we value People, Partnerships, Quality Services, Accountability, Teamwork, Integrity and Advocacy. Balancing the ethical responsibility to protect client confidentiality and the legal obligation to protect children from harm is difficult.
