This aspect of research proceeds by breaking a phenomenon down into simpler  elements. Analysis is based on the assumption that the action of a whole is the  result of the action of its parts and their interaction. By isolating the parts and  coming to understand their simple processes, then complex wholes can come to be  understood. The belief is that the complexity and unpredictability of wholes is due  to the action of the many small difficult to control processes making up the whole.  Analysis is specifically designed to obtain information concerning the nature of the  underlying behavioral process by breaking the phenomenon into its parts. This is  the process of isolating active variables or ingredients, or the removal of irrelevant  or confounding variables. Example: If given boxes and a hanging banana, a  chimpanzee will move the boxes to form a ladder and will get the banana. We can
